Environmental Inspectors Guidelines

In 2022 the Energy Connections Canada, in association with Jiva Consulting, published a Practical Guide for Environmental Construction Inspectors, including a career guide. The development of these guidelines and a career profile gives current inspectors a mechanism to diversify their skills and enter a specialist field, while providing structure for effectively developing the competency of new entrants. This move towards Environmental Construction Inspection as a stand-alone career will help us overcome worker shortages while creating a new level of consistency. It is formalizing a career that will take workers and the industry into our energy future.

Energy Ecosystem education initiative

With balancing energy and the environment being such an important issue, the need for current energy related education materials has never been more vital. To fill this gap, the Energy Ecosystem Initiative was launched with the mission of developing an unbiased, neutral source of curriculum-aligned material for senior high school Social and Science teachers. We engaged with professionals across the entire energy ecosystem, as well as education experts and teachers, to develop an easy to use program teachers across Canada can access.

Facility Inspector Certification

Following on the very successful Pipeline Inspector Certification (API 1169) developed in conjunction with the INGAA Foundation and American Petroleum Institute (API) that has seen more than 10,800 pipeline industry personnel received their certification. Building on the successful Pipeline Inspector Certification, the Facility Inspector’s Certification (API 1184) is set to roll out in the fall of 2021 after final approval from API. Again this is another joint initiative with the INGAA Foundation. There is a need to clearly differentiate pipeline facilities from oil and gas and refinery facilities and this program will achieve that through this new certification. The process involves significant consultation with Industry and API, development of the learning modules and examination questions and then final review and approval by API before they put their stamp on it. This new program will bring a much-needed consistency and an API level standard to pipeline facility and operations personnel throughout the industry.
